A Reading rock band renowned for flying the flag for their hometown despite achieving international success has teamed up with a grassroots football club for the launch of its new away kit.

The Amazons have collaborated with Caversham United Football Club to design the club’s new away shirt, which will be worn during the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons.

The partnership marks the first time since the launch of Caversham United’s annual #CavUtdKitCompetition in 2018 that the club has not selected its strip through a public design contest.

Instead, the shirt was created jointly by Caversham United first-team player Joe Hales, club chairman Paul Gutteridge and members of The Amazons, who worked together throughout the design process from the initial concepts to the finished product.

Inspired by the band’s preferred colour palette, the shirt features AC Milan-style red and black stripes with white detailing, alongside a subtle jaguar print woven into the fabric. Both The Amazons and Caversham United’s identities are embroidered into the design.

The collaboration brings together two organisations with strong ties to Reading. While The Amazons have built a reputation as one of the UK’s leading rock bands, they have consistently championed their hometown through their music and public appearances. They have continued to show their support for Reading Football Club and worked with the Royals for their kit release of their ‘Purple Turtle’ inspired kit in 2023/24 campaign.

They are now continuing their strong ties with the local football community with their collaboration with the Goats, who have captured national attention throughout the years with their strong following on social media.

As part of the partnership, The Amazons will also become the front-of-shirt sponsor for Caversham United’s Men’s Sunday First Team, the original side formed when the club was established in 2015.

The new away kit will be officially unveiled at 19:00 BST on Wednesday, 5 August.

Supporters will be able to pre-order the shirt through the club’s online shop until Tuesday, 18 August.

The collaboration will also support a local cause, with 20% of all profits from shirt sales being donated to Launchpad, the Reading-based homelessness prevention charity chosen jointly by the club and the band.

The shirt will be worn by all five of Caversham United’s adult teams across the next two seasons.
