My husband often drove through the ford,
But one-time disaster came very near!
And he turned to me and said:
“Pam, don’t YOU ever drive through here!”
I had no intention of risking the Ford,
Until one sunny spring day…
When small children were paddling
And being-on-time held sway.
I drove steadily into the stream,
But halfway … it started to get deep!
And I realised I was in a Mini,
Not a sturdy four wheel drive jeep!
By the time, I reached the opposite bank,
My heart was pounding in my chest!
And my brain was fully aware that
I’d failed the common-sense test.
I must have revved hard up the bank,
Not wanting the car to float away!
And I made it to the pub carpark,
Where my engine died that day!
A friend came to my aid and we waited,
Long hours for the Mini to be towed!
They were having a very hectic day,
And I wasn’t on a busy main road!
The mechanics had it for a week,
But the carburettor had sucked in water!
I had basically gone and done exactly,
What I’d been told, I didn’t ought to!
