Two senior members of staff at Reading Buses have won national honours at a new awards ceremony celebrating leaders in the passenger transport industry.
The company picked up two awards at the inaugural Leadership in Passenger Transport Awards, held at London’s O2 arena by the organisers of the UK Bus Awards.
Engineering Director Tom Ranson won the Infrastructure and Project Management award for overseeing the introduction of electric buses into the Reading Buses fleet.
The project involved installing new charging infrastructure at the depot, including extensive excavation work, while keeping day-to-day operations running with minimal disruption.
Reading Buses said the work has helped deliver a new fleet of electric buses now serving customers across the town.
Operations Manager Richard Moxom won the Customer Service award for initiatives aimed at improving passenger safety.
He led the company’s DriveWell scheme, which uses telematics technology to help drivers improve their driving, and worked with Thames Valley Police and the It Does Matter campaign on a pilot project to tackle unwanted behaviour on public transport.

The scheme included information displayed on buses and online, QR codes for passengers to report incidents, and police patrols on buses to reassure customers and encourage reporting.
Chief Executive Robert Williams was named runner-up in the Passenger Transport Leader of the Year category, while Commercial Manager Gemma Redson was shortlisted for the Innovation and New Thinking award.
Mr Williams said he was especially pleased to see his colleagues recognised.
“I am particularly delighted to see Tom and Richard recognised for their fantastic work.
“They both do a great job, and reflect the great team of people that we have at Reading Buses.
“Seeing them on stage was far more rewarding than being up there myself!”
