A BOROUGH choir is preparing its first programme of Christmas music.
Evendons Community Choir held its inaugural concert in June, proceeds from which were donated to Kimel Cafe and Evendons Primary School.
Following the success of the June performance, the group of around 20 singers is planning their next musical event, a Christmas concert, which will take place in December in Wokingham.
Musical director Sarah Kerr makes it a priority that the choir should be inclusive, accepting singers with experience, as well as those with none.
“We really want our choir to be for everyone in our community,”she said.
“A grant from Wokingham Town Council enables us to give free tickets to local charities, for those who would not normally get to attend an event like this.”
In rehearsals music is taught in such a way that it doesn’t matter what musical background members have.
“Many can’t read music, but everyone can sing and make great music.
“And we want our audience to feel a part of it as well, so we’re keen to reach out to our Wokingham community.”
Choir members are welcomed whatever their range of experience.
“We have some with choral experience, and some who, prior to joining, had no singing experience at all,” she said.
“Rehearsals cover musicianship training and vocal technique.
“And we’re a really friendly bunch.
“Join us for a magical evening filled with festive cheer at our Winter concert.
“With modern classical composers and traditional carols in several languages, including a number of congregational carols, some of our local community will also contribute what Christmas means to them through readings.
“Don’t miss this special event.”
Rehearsals take place at Evendons Primary School during term time on Wednesdays, from 7.30pm until 9pm.
The group’s Christmas concert, A Winter Celebration, promises timeless carols, new voices, and shared traditions.
It will take place at All Saints Church, Wokingham, on Wednesday, December 10.
Tickets cost £10 for adults, and £6 for under 16s.
Doors will open at 7pm with the music beginning at 7.30pm.
