THE REDDAM House Combined Cadet Force has begun its annual fundraising event in honour of Remembrance Day and in aid of The Royal British Legion.
Three teams of cadets and staff will ride the distance between Reddam House and the John Frost bridge in Arnhem, The Netherlands, on exercise bikes.
Four Wattbikes will be used to cycle a total distance of 337 miles, starting at 9am on Thursday, November 11.
Teams will cycle for 24 hours, finishing at 9am on Armistice Day, Friday, November 11, raising funds for the Royal British Legion, which supports UK armed forces and their families.
This year, the Combined Cadet Force is aiming to raise £3,000.
The John Frost bridge was made famous during Operation Market garden, which sought to secure bridges over the river Rhine during the Second World War.
The bridge was set to be captured by British airborne units and replace by land forced, an operation which was made famous by the film A Bridge Too Far.
In previous years, the CCF has raised thousands for the Royal British Legion through its annual walk, with a 30-hour walk back in 2021, and a treadmill walk in 2020.
Captain Neil Graham said: “The three cadet captains have chosen their six-person teams, we find the location and facilities,
“The bikes will be going throughout, but it’s up to the cadets to work out how they do it.”
Speaking of the event’s fundraising, he said: “We do it every year as part of our remembrance of the veterans and the fallen.
“If we don’t do things like this we won’t remember, and for the cadets it’s also reminder of what it is to serve and make those sacrifices.
“It supports today’s veterans too, in the 40 years since the Falklands, as well as those who served in Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, all of whom are supported by the Legion.”
The teams will be updating their Twitter feed with their progress throughout the event.
