READING FC manager Ruben Selles blamed lack of ‘game management’ after the Royals suffered a stoppage time collapse at Shrewsbury Town.
The Royals remain bottom of the League One table, 10 points adrift of safety, after they conceded twice in stoppage time to lose 3-2 away from home.
Reading have now gone a full year without a win on the road in the league.
“I don’t know if it’s the worst (defeat). It is painful. It has been like that for some games,” said Selles.
“We did a lot of good things in the game, led 2-0 and it could have been more.
“We didn’t finish the job.
“Second half we had situations and weren’t ruthless. We were not focused enough as a team to keep the result.”
Selles believes that his team need to defend better from set pieces after they saw their 2-1 lead wiped out in the final minutes of the match.
He continued: “We must defend the corners better. We need to be more ruthless in the one on one.
“We know how much it means for us to get points away. We cannot concede a goal in the centre of our goal, we have to be more ruthless in marking and the clearance to attack the space. We need to do better.
“I think it was a problem of game management and we were not as a team.
“It was extra-time when we started to suffer.
“We can talk about tactics but we concede two set plays with two free runners and we need to be better as a team.
“We don’t forget the situation we are in, we can’t forget any part of the situation we are in.
“Those elements hurt us a lot, but it’s not an excuse. We’ve not been good enough. Games like today when you’re leading 2-0, we need to be better to keep the result.”
When questioned about his future at the club, Selles said: “I respect the opinion of anybody. We were on top of the game for 90 minutes.
“I need to deliver more and better strategies to go through those moments. People make their opinions and you need to respect that.
“They (the fans) came here to see their team play and perform. They have been amazing.
“We need to start to give them something more and good results away from home so they can be proud of us. We are very close to doing it. It’s hard for every one of us.”
