The final day of Reading Festival 2026 delivered everything fans could have hoped for.
There were surprise appearances, emerging talent, major headline names and, eventually, an unforgettable performance in the pouring rain that stood out as one of the defining moments of the entire weekend.
Sunday began with plenty still to come, and one of the early highlights arrived at The Gallery.
Holly Humberstone delivered an excellent performance, with the singer bringing an intimate and engaging feel to one of the festival’s smaller stages.
Her set provided a strong start to the day, but Reading Festival had already established a reputation for surprises over the weekend.
And Sunday had another one waiting.
This time, the surprise came on the Main Stage.
Lola Young shocked fans by making an unexpected appearance, a year after she had been forced to postpone her planned Reading Festival performance.
There had been speculation among festival-goers about possible surprise guests throughout the weekend, but the appearance still generated a huge reaction.
For Lola Young, the moment offered the chance to finally perform at Reading after last year’s disappointment, while fans were treated to an unexpected opportunity to hear some of her biggest songs live.
It was another example of the unpredictable nature of the weekend, which had already seen Jamie T and Royal Blood make surprise appearances on Friday.
Sunday also provided a platform for one of the festival’s emerging artists.
Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, showcased her own musical talent with a performance at The Balcony.
Having released her debut album earlier this year, she took to the stage to perform her material and demonstrate why she is beginning to attract attention as an artist in her own right.
It was an important moment away from the biggest stages, highlighting one of Reading Festival’s strengths – the opportunity to discover artists at the beginning of what could be significant careers.
As the evening approached, however, attention increasingly turned towards the Main Stage.
Florence + The Machine were due to perform at 8pm, and the anticipation around the site was clear.
What followed was, for this reviewer, the personal standout performance of the entire weekend.
Florence Welch has long been regarded as one of the most commanding performers in live music, and her Reading Festival appearance showed exactly why.
The performance flowed superbly from one moment to the next, with the set carefully building in intensity and atmosphere.
Her vocals were consistently impressive, capable of moving from delicate and emotional moments to huge, powerful climaxes.
But it was not simply the quality of the singing that made the performance special.
Florence had complete command of the crowd.
Thousands responded to every movement, every lyric and every instruction, creating an extraordinary connection between the stage and the audience.
Then came the rain towards the end of the performance, the heavens opened over Richfield Avenue.
What might have disrupted another show instead added another layer of drama. The rain poured down, soaking the crowd, but nobody seemed prepared to leave.
Instead, fans continued to sing, dance and watch in awe as Florence + The Machine performed against the increasingly dramatic backdrop.
It was the kind of festival moment that could not have been planned.
The weather, the music and the energy of the audience combined to create an image that will remain with many who were there long after the weekend has ended. Florence’s stage presence remained utterly captivating throughout.
As the rain intensified, the crowd’s response seemed to grow stronger, creating a fitting conclusion to what had been a remarkable performance.
Personally for me, it was the most complete set of the weekend and had everything you’d want from a headliner.
The final responsibility for closing Reading Festival then fell to Chase & Status, who brought the 2026 event to an end.
Their performance provided a high-energy finale as thousands of festival-goers made the most of their final night at Richfield Avenue.
