AN APPEAL has gone out to animal lovers who can help provide a temporary home to some timid potential pets.
The Old Windsor branch of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says it has more than 600 unwanted, abandoned and stray felines. Many of the cats are faced with unfamiliar sights, smells and sounds. As all cats are individuals, some will ‘cope’ in a cattery environment, others struggle.
Now, Battersea is hoping that cat lovers will act as a foster home while a permanent home is found. A stay could be anything from a few days to a few months. Residents will need to be able to provide a ‘feline friendly’ secure, comfortable, calm and clean settling room that the cat can call their own to help them feel safe.
Cat fostering helps Battersea determine what type of future home environment will be suitable for its cats, whether a quiet and calm home environment or a more rural independent home such as a riding stables, country house, or farm.
Sue Hartley, Battersea’s Feline Welfare Manager, said: “Becoming a Battersea cat behaviour foster carer is a highly valuable and rewarding role.
“We’re looking for empathetic and compassionate people who can expect to receive regular contact and advice from Battersea expert staff and access to all necessary equipment and resources for the cat.”
Potential cat behaviour foster carers will need to be able to commit a minimum time
of six months and live within one hour of the Old Windsor site, which is at the A328, Priest Hill.
