Thames Valley Cricket round-up: Eversley’s perfect record finally ended

Division 2A

Eversley were beaten for the first time in the league this season as their top of the table clash with Ickenham saw them lose out by three wickets. Tom Howorth top scored for Eversley with 62 and Nicholas McGuane (4-55) bowled brilliantly but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat. Ickenham leapfrogged Eversley at the top of the division as a result.

Division 2B

Hurst came out as victors when they clashed with Finchampstead 2s as they moved to the top of the division. Phil Higgs (7-54) bowled tremendously as he tore through the Finch batting order and Max Carroll (103) batted his side to victory as they triumphed by eight wickets. Hurst are now five points clear in first place while Finchampstead 2s remain in seventh.

Division 3A

Binfield stay clear at the summit after they cruised to a seven wicket win against Sulhamstead & Ufton. Ian Goddard (5-34) was in top form with the ball as he helped to skittle Sulhamstead all out for 121. Binfield them wrapped the victory up after 31.1 overs, only losing three wickets in the process, with Muhammad Furquan top scoring with 54 runs not out.

Wokingham 2s remain as Binfield’s closest challengers as the second placed side picked up another victory as they beat Boyne Hill 2s by five wickets. John McDonald (5-39) starred with the ball as Boyne Hill were bowled all out for 131. Wokingham won relatively comfortably as they chased down the total in just 27.5 overs as George Horsley top scored with 64 runs.

Division 4A

Sonning extend their stay at the top of the table as they thrashed White Waltham by 186 runs. Peter Dean smashed 112 runs for Sonning in the first innings as they hit a huge score of 283 for their opponents to chase. Andrew Niblett took 4-34 as they raced to a convincing victory as they bowled White Waltham all out for just 97.

Wokingham 3s subsequently moved above White Waltham into second place after they defeated Bracknell by six wickets. Bracknell set Wokingham a chase of 143 which the Oaks reached comfortably as Jake Turner knocked 58 runs before they surpassed the total after 36.3 overs with six wickets to spare.

Wargrave 2s slipped to fourth in the table as they suffered defeat against Reading 2s. Wargrave set their opponents a total of 168 to catch, but Reading did so with comfortability as they only dropped two wickets in the process.

Division 5B

Eversley 2s stay unbeaten at the top of the table as they defeated Royal Ascot 2s by seven wickets. Eversley bowled and fielded excellently as they removed Royal Ascot for 86. They then sailed to an easy victory, reaching the chase in just 18 overs.

Binfield 2s remain in second place despite being beaten by Maidenhead & Bray by 44 runs. Binfield bowled their opponents all out for 184 but couldn’t complete the chase as they were removed for 140 after 43.4 overs.

Division 6A

White Waltham 2s dropped to fifth position as they were beaten by Ickenham 3s who recorded a six wicket victory to go top of the division.

Division 6B

Hurst 2s and Finchampstead 4s were both involved in draws this weekend. Hurst remain in fourth place after their stalemate with Reading 3s, meanwhile Finch stay just above the relegation places in eight place after their draw against Fleet 2s.

Sonning 2s cruised to a win with an eight wicket triumph over Theale & Tilehurst 2s as they moved up to sixth place.

Division 7A 

Wargrave 3s stay close on first placed Yateley’s tails after they recorded a comfortable six wicket win against Royal Ascot 3s.

Binfield 3s stay close behind Wargrave in third place as they picked up another victory as they beat Slough 5s by four wickets.

Wokingham 4s climbed up to sixth with a brilliant seven wicket triumph against Newbury 2s. Hugh Doyle (4-27) and Steve Bendall (56*) both put in outstanding performances to help them to victory.

Division 8A

Eversley 3s maintained their 100% winning start to the season as they thrashed Bradfield 2s by 103 runs as Harry Leach hit a century not out. Wokingham 5s fell to sixth in the table after they were narrowly beaten by 12 runs against Thatcham Town 3s.

Division 9A

Eversley 4s defeated Sonning 3s by six wickets as Graeme Ellis (4-28) and Andrew Thornton (4-38) both displayed bowling excellence to help Eversley to victory.

Meanwhile, Wokingham Oaks & Acorns stay rooted to the bottom of the division after a 40-run defeat against Stoke Green 4s despite a superb all round display from Roger Heath (5-24).
