Woodley town council has announced that Woodford Park has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the ninth consecutive year, recognising it as one of the best parks in the UK.
As the internationally recognised Green Flag Award celebrates its 30th anniversary, Woodford Park is proud to be one of a record-breaking 2,391 parks and green spaces across the UK to receive the accolade this year.
It also remains the only park in Wokingham borough to achieve the award, reflecting its exceptional standards in cleanliness, safety, biodiversity and community engagement.
Set in the heart of Woodley, Woodford Park offers a wide range of facilities that appeal to all ages.
The park was recognised with the award for its outstanding management, strong community focus and high-quality facilities.
Judges praised the wide range of opportunities available to support both physical and mental wellbeing, the council’s commitment to listening to local residents and adapting the park to meet community needs, and the excellent programme of community-led events.
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag award manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our
economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
“With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.
“Woodley town council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed.
“As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.”
The continued success of Woodford Park would not be possible without the dedicated work of the town council’s grounds maintenance team, and the invaluable support of local volunteer group, the Friends of Woodford Park.
Cllr Keith Baker, leader of Woodley town council, said: “Receiving the Green Flag Award for the ninth consecutive year is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the pride we take in Woodford Park.
“The judges recognised not only the quality of the park itself, but also our commitment to listening to residents, supporting biodiversity, improving accessibility and creating a
welcoming space for everyone.
“This award belongs to our dedicated staff, the Friends of Woodford Park and the many local people who value and help care for this much-loved community asset.”
