STEVE Wheatley has set himself the challenge of running from his hometown of Coventry to Camp Mohawk in Wargrave, Berkshire, over three days.
He will be covering just over 80 miles, the equivalent of three marathons.
Steve has chosen to support Camp Mohawk (The Woodland Centre Trust) because the charity supports his cousin Felicity, who was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation, Periventricular Heterotopia (PVNH).
This has resulted in Felicity having a visual impairment, learning disability, autism and epilepsy.
Felicity’s Mum Chloe Jackson said: “There are many charities that have supported us throughout this time, however when Steve asked to do a fundraising event, there was one obvious choice: Camp Mohawk.
“It’s hard to explain Camp Mohawk and the impact it has, unless you are a family that needs to seek this support.
“The idea that your child can access a safe, non-judgmental space, where you are surrounded by other families who just get it, not to mention wonderful staff, is honestly a tiny slice of happiness during what can be a very challenging life.”
Steve’s run for three consecutive days will begin in Coventry on Wednesday, August 5.
He will complete his challenge, arriving at Camp Mohawk on Friday, August 7, where he will be cheered across the finish line by family, friends, Camp Mohawk staff and the families the charity supports.
Chloe added: “The event is all the more special as Steve finishes at Camp Mohawk on World PVNH Awareness Day.”
The charity is grateful to him for taking on this challenge in support of the families they serve.
Davina Turnbull, Camp Mohawk’s corporate and community fundraiser, said: “We receive no government funding.
“So, community fundraising is essential in enabling us to continue to provide vital support that helps reduce isolation for more than 900 local families.”
