BRACKNELL BEES kicked off the Doug Sheppard era with two wins in the opening weekend of the NIHL Division 1 South campaign.
Bees battled past Romford Raiders 6-4 at The Hive on Saturday thanks to goals from Vanya Antonov (2), Josh Smith, Roman Malinik, Aidan Doughty and Shaun Thompson.
And Bracknell backed that up with a tight 3-2 win in Gillingham against Invicta Dynamos on Sunday with Stuart Mogg and Josh Martin (2) finding the net.
Both games followed a similar pattern with Sheppard’s men racing into 3-0 leads before struggling during the second period before seeing the wins over the line.
INTERVIEW: Doug Sheppard excited by Bracknell Bees potential
“You’re happy any time you walk away with a four-point weekend,” said head coach Sheppard.

“We played four good periods across the weekend but we didn’t have our best performances in the second period in either game. We need to work on that.
“I’m really happy with the way we responded though, especially on Sunday being as short benched as we were.
“I think as a whole, from pre-season to this weekend, we were better defensively but we’re aware there’s plenty of room for improvement.”
Bees welcome Streatham to The Hive on Sunday (6pm).
