Thrive needs volunteers

The Sporting Memories Foundation is a charity dedicated to Sports Reminiscence & Physical Activities.

They support older people living in England and Wales with dementia, depression and loneliness by engaging them in social activities and helping them to recall memories of watching or playing sport.

By sharing memories of sporting moments and tapping into a passion for sport we help people to connect with others and with their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise remain hidden away.

Using images of sport and memorabilia, older people are assisted to stay connected to their friends and communities, cognitively stimulated and physically active.

Sporting Memories groups help people over the age of 50 age well and remain as healthy as possible. The local group meets on Wednesday afternoons from 12.30pm-3pm at the Berkshire County Sports & Social Club in Sonning.

The first hour of the session begins with reminiscing activities quizzes, discussions and group interaction. The second hour includes physical/sporting activities based around the theme for the day.

As a volunteer, you will support the facilitator and participants in the activities. An interest in sport and helping older people is desirable.

Thrive is the leading charity in the UK that uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people who are living with disabilities or ill-health or are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.

They need volunteers to support the mini bus driver as an escort when collecting and taking home Thrive’s clients from various locations across North Hampshire.

Please note: this is not a driving role and is open to people who do not hold a driving licence.

The role involves; supervising clients boarding and disembarking the bus (no lifting required) general supervision of clients whilst travelling and assisting the driver and passengers in the event of an emergency.

The volunteers will need to have a helpful, sensitive and perceptive disposition, an awareness or experience of helping with people with disabilities.

Volunteers will be offered a full introduction to the tasks needed, training in relation to health and safety and any other relevant training and regular volunteer meetings. DBS checks will be carried out.

n Thames Hospice is the local charity providing expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.

Their shop in Wokingham is hugely important to the vital fundraising work they need to do.

They need various volunteers who can help merchandise, sort, stack or style!

Get in touch to book a free taster session and experience retail volunteering before signing up.

Tasks and shifts are available to suit all.
