Parkinson’s UK’s Bracknell and District Branch has issued an urgent appeal for a new Branch Treasurer to allow the group to continue operating.

The Bracknell and District Branch has been running for 33 years and caters to many local people who are affected by Parkinson’s, offering monthly in person meetings, as well as other activities such as physiotherapy sessions.

The branch, which meets in Bracknell, is looking for someone with a head for numbers to take on the role of Branch Treasurer to keep the branch operating. Previous experience in finance, accountancy or bookkeeping can be valuable, but is not essential.

This is a flexible role with a big impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance to the branch on internal control and financial procedures, recording branch financial activity and keeping both the branch and UK office informed of the branch’s financial position in line with reporting requirements.

Josie Taylor, Network Support Officer, Parkinson’s UK said: “Activities provided by local groups are a lifeline for people in the local area who are living with Parkinson’s, but unless a new Branch Treasurer steps forward people could be left without the support they need.

“If you can spare between two and four hours a week, we’d love to welcome you to volunteer alongside the amazing people who are part of the group – because with your support we really can change lives.

“As well as making a big difference to people living with Parkinson’s in your local community, volunteering is a great opportunity to try something new, have new experiences, and meet new people.”

Around 145,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, with 4,866 in the Thames Valley region alone.

Parkinson’s UK is the UK’s leading charity supporting those with the condition. Its mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s through pioneering research, information, support and campaigning.

There are around 365 Parkinson’s UK local groups throughout the UK, which are run by volunteers who are trained and supported by Parkinson’s UK staff.

Visit parkinsons.org.uk for more information about Parkinson’s UK support groups.

For further details about the volunteer vacancies for the Bracknell and District Branch, contact Josie Taylor, network support officer, on 0344 225 3744 or via [email protected].
