Wigan Athletic midfielder Shaun MacDonald has called on Reading to “go and get promoted” after he was stretchered off at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
The Wales international came off worse in a challenge with George Evans in the 11th minute of the Royals’ 1-0 win over the Latics and suffered a double leg fracture.
Following a lengthy delay for treatment and to drive the midfielder off the pitch, Evans was booked for the challenge.
But in an Instagram post today, MacDonald insists no blame should be attached to the Reading man.
“To each and every one of you, thank you so much for your kind and positive messages of support,” said MacDonald.
“Massive thanks to all the treatment staff, both at Wigan and Reading, for dealing with the situation so well and to all the players at both sets of clubs for comforting me.
“To the lad George (Evans) who unfortunately went in for the tackle, please put no blame on yourself mate.
“These things happen. Go and get promoted for us.”
He continued: “Also thank you to both sets of fans at the game and fans from the clubs I’ve played for, for getting in touch.
“Thanks to the hospitals both in Reading and Oxford, especially the surgeon and his team who have repaired me to give me the best possible chance of getting back as soon as possible.
“To the most important people in my life, my friends and family, I love you all so much and thanks for being so amazing and being around me whether that’s been through calls, messages or coming to visit.
“Let the road to recovery begin, especially with my rock and wife to be Jordan.”
