People in Wokingham are being urged to take extra care in the heat, with temperatures expected to remain close to or above 30C for much of the coming week.
The forecast from Saturday, 11 July, through to Saturday, 18 July, shows a prolonged spell of hot, largely dry weather, with plenty of sunshine and only a small chance of showers towards the end of the week.
Saturday is expected to reach around 32C under clear skies before temperatures ease only slightly to 31C on Sunday. Highs are then forecast to remain between 29C and 32C throughout the week, meaning warm days and mild nights are likely to continue across the borough.
The Met Office says southern England is likely to remain under the influence of high pressure, bringing settled conditions, while temperatures stay well above average despite easing slightly from the peak of the current heatwave.
Health officials advise people to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day between 11:00 BST and 3:00 BST, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing if they need to be outside.
Residents are also being encouraged to keep curtains closed during the day, open windows when temperatures drop overnight, use sunscreen with a high SPF, and avoid strenuous physical activity during the afternoon.
Extra care should be taken to check on older neighbours, young children and people with underlying health conditions, who are most vulnerable during prolonged periods of hot weather. Pets should also have constant access to fresh water and should never be left in parked vehicles.
Drivers are being reminded to carry water on longer journeys and ensure children and animals are never left alone in cars, where temperatures can rise dangerously within minutes.
Although there is a small chance of showers or thunderstorms later in the week, forecasters expect the hot weather to continue into next weekend, with temperatures remaining well above the seasonal average.
