ON SUNDAY afternoon, a borough town centre was transformed into a winter wonderland for the enjoyment of visitors to Wokingham’s Winter Carnival.

And with more fun-filled streets than in previous years, there were carnival surprises around every corner.

Teacup rides, miniature trains, bungee jumping – and new this year – a huge helter skelter beside the Town Hall kept were just some of the rides and experiences that kept young festival goers entertained.

And for adults looking for funfair thrills, also new to the event was a ‘booster’ ride beside Everyman Cinema that gave brave passengers a tree-top high – and possibly nausea-inducing – spinning view of Wokingham.

With Morris dancers, charity stalls and Christmas gift stands lining much of Peach Street, Denmark Street, Peach Place, Rose Street and Broad Street, there was plenty of festive fun for everyone to enjoy.

Wokingham Lions Club, which organises the event, should be feeling very pleased with how it went, and not least that an afternoon of sunshine added to visitors’ experience of this year’s Wokingham Winter Carnival.
