LADY luck followed a Wokingham resident when she moved house – seeing her win £30,000 and a £5,000 dream holiday in a lottery.
Wendy Baron scooped the top prize earlier this month in the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The mum-of-four had previously won £11,985, as part of a shared £210,000 jackpot in 2020. This was at her old address, and she is now playing the postcode of her new home. It was this that came up trumps in the draw.
A former bank manager, Wendy changed careers and is now devoted to green-fingered pursuits. She spent part of her first win on transforming her own garden and now plans to invest some of her latest winnings into a garden makeovers business.
She plans to invest some cash in her plant passion and will take her children on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Cape Verde.
Ms Baron was shocked at her win, and can’t wait to start packing her suitcases for the trip of a lifetime.
“It was amazing, the first win came exactly when I needed it and now, we really need a holiday,” she explained. “It could be my last chance to have a family holiday all together before my girls start holidaying with their friends instead.”
And next-door neighbour, 85-year-old Jean, also scooped the £30,000 cash prize and a £5,000 holiday.
She signed up to play after finding out about Wendy’s previous good fortune and also She is planning a trip to California with her daughter Lisa, so they can visit her son Matt and two grandchildren, whom she hasn’t seen for four years.
“I can’t tell you how I’m feeling,” she said. “I speak to my grandkids every single day and they even track my steps on my watch to keep me fit, but I haven’t seen them in four years, so I just feel so lucky to be able to see them this summer.”
Wendy and Jean were both visited by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson.
He said: “I’m a local boy and thrilled to be knocking on doors here in Wokingham. I’m so excited for our winners today and getting a cuddle from Wendy’s puppy Bentley was the icing on the cake.”
The other winners chose to remain anonymous.
