A CELEBRATION of reading took place in Wokingham’s new bookshop last week.

To mark World Book Day, Waterstones in Peach Place held a series of special events including a children’s book group and a dressing up day.

A steady stream of young visitors to the branch on Saturday, March 9 – popping in to pick up their free World Book Day book – were greeted by the Worst Witch, female pirate Anne Bonney and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games as staff wore costumes and handed out balloons.

The next morning, the youngsters book group discussed Sophie Anderson’s book The House With Chicken Legs.

And the bookshop had also invited children to design their very own book cover, with staff saying that it was very hard to choose a winner. Eventually, they settled on designs by Vera and Harry.

The fun continued with an adult book group meeting on Monday, March 18 at The Hope and Anchor. This month’s book for discussion was Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott.
