Wokingham Borough Council has won £750,000 in funding from the government to make social homes more energy efficient.
A total of £1.5 million will be invested in 100 homes over the next three years.
It is being paid through the department for energy security and net zero’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund scheme.
Now in its third wave, the scheme helps councils and social housing landlords to improve the energy performance of social homes.
Of the homes included, the council aims to improve their Energy Performance Certificates to a Band C.
Works will include wall and loft insulation, which should mean residents energy costs should be lower, the council said.
Executive member for housing, partnerships and the local plan Stephen Conway said: “As homes will cost less to heat, residents will see a reduction in their energy bills and carbon emissions, helping us work towards becomig a carbon neutral Wokingham Borough.”
Cllr Conway, who is also leader of the council, said it was ‘fantastic news’ and would ‘help residents to keep warm, particularly in the colder months’.
Residents who are eligible will be contacted directly by the council in the coming months with further details.
