A POPULAR ironmongery is to stay open in Wokingham and Woodley, despite fears that a new branch in Bracknell would see the stores close.
Earlier this week, The Lexicon announced Robert Dyas would be the latest firm to move in to the popular shopping centre.
It will open its doors on Friday, August 25, in Braccan Walk, and sell the full range including kitchen electricals, cleaning appliances, gardening equipment, and DIY tools.
The store will take over from gift shop Menkind.

The news has led to speculation on social media that the Wokingham branch will close as a result.
Property developers Devonshire Metro Limited are looking to build four commercial units and 60 new homes by knocking down 19-20 Market Place, as well as part-demolishing number 21 – the units housing Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Robert Dyas and Lloyds Bank. It is not yet clear whether these businesses will be lost on a temporary or permanent basis while the work is completed.
A consultation period on the plans closed last month and the proposals are now being considered by Wokingham Borough Council’s planning department.
The company has told Wokingham Today that the Denmark Street store – and its counterpart in Woodley’s Crockhamwell Road shopping precinct – will remain trading, with no plans to close.
A Robert Dyas spokesperson said: ‘This is an important store for the business and our colleagues.
“We fully intend to be part of the Wokingham retail offer in the future as we have enjoyed many years here and have built a loyal customer base.
“Regarding the Woodley store, we also have no intention to close here.”
