Opinions were divided over a planning application, the consultation for which ended yesterday (December 6).
The retrospective application sought approval for a timber treehouse and zipline in a residential garden on Barkham Road in Wokingham.
Residents were divided in their submission to Wokingham Borough Council during the consultation period.
One neighbour wrote: “I wish to object to this retrospective planning application as the height of the structure, at 4.0 metres, is well in excess of the permitted development allowance of 2.5 metres.
Another wrote; “ Such a large structure is not really suitable for a medium-sized residential garden, and will inevitably lead to increased noise from children using it”.
Others were supportive of structures remaining in place.
One wrote: “I think children should be able to have fun within their own garden, and having an exciting feature where children can have fun and exercise is surely beneficial.
Owners of a neighbouring property added: “We are in support of this application.
“Whilst I appreciate planning consent should have been approved prior to construction, this tree house/zip line has now been in place for over a year.
“Whilst there are local parks in the vicinity, for the age of the children, they could not attend without an adult, and it is a known fact that groups of youths turn up in cars to those, and it would not be a safe place for them to play without an adult present.
“The owner, in our opinion, is trying to give her children a fun, happy home to grow up in, with minimal risk.”
Wokingham Borough Council will decide the fate of the treehouse and zipline in the coming weeks.
