VINCENT Van Gogh and fellow artist Leonardo Da Vinci have taken prime position in Wokingham, where they can be seen sitting on one of the town’s post boxes.
They feature in a crocheted installation created by the Barkham Hookers, a borough crafting group known for their wool-based masterpieces and fundraising efforts.
Their art-themed post box topper, depicting two famous old masters, has been made to celebrate the 10th birthday of The Arts Society Wokingham.
It was unveiled at an event attended by committee members of the society.
Alison Sanders, chair, said: “We are delighted to work with the incredibly creative Barkham Hookers to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Arts Society Wokingham.
“Once again they have produced an amazing artistic post box topper especially for us.
“It is great to welcome this beautiful topper to Broad Street to bring attention to our 10th anniversary celebrations.”
Barkham Hookers leader, Gaynor White, said: “ I thoroughly enjoyed making Leonardo and Vincent.
“And Vincent’s Starry Night artwork, an easel and a paintbrush, were created by other members of our group.
“We all very much hope that people will keep a look-out for the installation.
“It would be a great shame if it was pinched, as we’ve donated the two artists to The Arts Society Wokingham to be auctioned to raise money for borough charities.”
Two prominent pieces of Barkham Hookers’ artwork, poppy-strewn saddles placed on Arborfield’s lifesized horse sculptures for the nation’s 80th D-Day anniversary, were stolen by thieves earlier this year.
The Arts Society Wokingham, will celebrate a decade of their borough arts lectures, events and meetings, at Kings Academy, Binfield, on Monday, July 15.
Members and guests are invited to come from 6.30pm for drinks and cake, followed at 7.45pm by an illustrated talk entitled Rome, Art and Emperors: The Golden Age of Roman Art.
This free event will be given by Dr Paul Roberts, Head of the Department of Antiquities and the Ashmolean.

Wokingam Arts Society lectures can be heard at Kings Academy, Binfield, on the third Monday of every month, with the exception of August and December.
