AT ITS annual meeting on Wednesday, May 9, Earley Town Council welcomed Brian Wedge as its new mayor.
He takes over from Michael Firmager.
Cllr Wedge is 70 and used to be a senior consultant for IBM. Originally from North Staffordshire, he has lived in Earley for 33 years and served on the town council for seven.
His son attended both Aldryngton Primary and Maiden Erleigh secondary school, while his wife, before retirement, worked for the Royal Berkshire Hospital in its podiatry department.
Cllr Wedge’s hobbies include fishing, photography, cooking, visiting historical sites and, he jokes, chasing his granddaughter.
At the same meeting, a vote of thanks was given to town clerk Philip Trupin who is retiring.
