A CASCADE of poppies outside the Oakwood Centre formed the backdrop for three days of remembrance ceremonies in Woodley.
The memorial in Woodford Park was the focal point for the gatherings.
On Friday, children from the town’s schools came together for their own act of remembrance.
An Armistice Day commemoration and two-minute silence was held on Saturday and attended by local dignitaries including Reading East MP Matt Rodda, Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Beth Rowland, and Woodley Town deputy mayor Cllr Juliet Anderson.
And on Sunday, the town came together for its service of remembrance, with readings, the Last Post and Reveille as well as a two-minute silence.
Among those taking part were Woodley Army and Air Cadets, Cubs and Scouts.
The Woodley Memorial committee were presented with a ceramic poppy from The Tower of London. This represents the town’s veterans – past, present, and future.
It will go on display in The Oakwood Centre.
Afterwards, refreshments were served by the Woodley branch of Women’s Institute in Coronation Hall.
The poppy waterfall was created by Lucy Falkner, who used old wreaths to create the artwork.
A contest is running until the end of the month to guess how many poppies were used in its creation.
