MEMBERS of a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities have been turning wasted offcuts of wood into useful items that will benefit wildlife.
Spencers Wood Repair Cafe helped the group from CLASP Wokingham to make bird boxes which, as well as being good for the environment, will also raise funds for CLASP.
Michele Munro, independence support worker at CLASP, said: “Billie from Spencers Wood Repair Café joined us for a bird box making session, using leftover supplies to upcycle into these useful homes for our feathered friends.
“The members had a wonderful time working together to make the bird boxes, which will be sold for a minimum donation of £5.”
Spencers Wood Repair Cafe meets at Lambs Lane Primary School, on the third Sunday of each month from 10am until 1pm.
It also offers bird box making workshops for schools and groups.
The project is popular, and the group is urgently in need of more wood offcuts, with organiser Billie Bachra keen to hear from building companies and trade businesses able to supply them with timber.
CLASP Wokingham offers services for its members every day from Monday to Friday, and membership is free.
