ON Saturday 6th May, Sarah Shears, a member of the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh, competed in the West London Tough Mudder event held near Henley.
For her extreme and superb effort she is collecting sponsorship for the charity MIND. By Monday, May 8 Sarah had already raised nearly £700 via her Just Giving website link and sponsorship donations.
Tough Mudder is a 12-mile extreme obstacle course designed to test physical strength and determination. With the other participants, Sarah had to plunge into a skip filled with ice water and pull herself out on other side, crawl under live wires hung over a field of mud, and climb on slippery surfaces suspended over water and many more tough challenges.
Sarah is set to become the club’s youngest President in July 2018 and in her time with the club she has successfully managed the youth service committee and served as an assistant leader on the District 1090 Rotary Young Leader’s Award scheme. She has worked hard to establish a Rotaract Club in Reading, bringing together people aged between 18 and 30 who exchange ideas and enjoy providing help to communities.
Rotary club President Scott Trathen said: “We are really proud of Sarah and look forward to an interesting year when she becomes President in July 2018.”
