WORK on the new Saxons Court development will see a busy Wokingham road closed this weekend. Cross Street will be shut to traffic on Sunday, to enable a crane to be moved.
If the weather prevents the work from taking place, the work will be postponed for a week.
The work has been planned for one of Wokingham’s quieter days for traffic, but because part of Peach Street remains closed, a detour around the town centre will be in place.
The closure means that Rose Street can only be entered via Broad Street for the duration of the works. This will affect people attending Wokingham Methodist Church’s morning services and will cause some changes to the Lion 4 bus route.
The Reading bound lion 4 and X4 will be diverted via Denmark Street and Wellington Road.
The bus stop in Broad Street will not be served but buses will observe the temporary bus stop in Denmark Street by WH Smith instead.
A spokesperson for Reading Buses said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
Prospect Estate Agency is marketing Saxons Court, which is on the corner of Peach Street and Cross Street.
The new build development is unique in Wokingham in that it is built around a centre courtyard, with apartments looking on to it.
There will be 39 apartments in total, offering a mixture of one- and two-bedroom homes.
Sizes will vary according to the level and the plot, with the top level offering unique penthouses with stunning views across Wokingham and plenty of space, while the lower apartments are smaller, but still cozy.
Entrance to Saxons Court will be through a central door. Stairs and a lift will take people to their new homes.
Front doors are built around a balconied courtyard and developers Careys New Homes are hopeful that, when completed, residents will take the opportunity to form a community.
