YOUNG actors in Wokingham are preparing to tread the boards to some of English literature’s best known works, The Canterbury Tales.
The Youth division of Wokingham Theatre will be staging the tales, adapted from Geoffrey Chaucer’s original work of the middle ages by Michael Bogdanov and Phil Woods, for audiences at the theatre’s Twyford Road venue this week.
Bringing together a selection of Chaucer’s original characters into a modern take on the well-known stories, Wokingham Youth Theatre promise to stage a production that is as enjoyable and professional as their adult counterparts.
Director Lloyd White said: “It’s great to be working with this enthusiastic and talented team of youngsters. As with all WT shows, Canterbury Tales will be a great night out, with high production standards and all the energy of the Youth Theatre behind it.
“The actors have really embraced the bawdy and raucous spirit of Chaucer’s Tales which this adaptation makes so accessible for a modern audience. There is something for everyone in this fast paced, funny, and, at times, dark and thoughtful piece, with medieval morals that resonate today.”
Wokingham Youth Theatre is always looking for new members to come along and try their hand at a variety of acting and theatre skills. Young people aged eight to 18 are welcome to join the classes, held at the theatre, and perform regularly in end of term showcases, full scale Youth productions, or playing the child roles in the main season plays.
