A WOKINGHAM-based fundraising group has made donations to two charities that help families.
Every year, Wokingham Lions team up with volunteers from Wokingham Rotary Club, Easthampstead Rotary Club & Windsor Forest Unicorn Club, to organise the Wokingham Fireworks each November.
It attracts thousands of people for its torchlit procession, funfair and, of course, firework display.
And that means big donations to good causes, with each group nominating its own.
The Lions chose Daisy’s Dream and First Days Children’s Charity, splitting their share.

Last month, they welcomed Joanne Somner from Daisy’s Dream, which supports children through a significant bereavement. She explained how the charity launched in 1996, and thanked them for the donation of £3,500, which could be used to fund their phone line for three months, helping those with initial enquiries and ongoing questions, facilitate a great family day out for the children they help, or allow 10 children to access a course of six one-to-one coaching sessions.
First Days helps families on a low income by providing everyday essentials for children who need them. They also provide school uniform to those in need upon referral.
Recently, to support other families in Wokingham Borough, First Days launched a shop where parents can purchase pre-loved uniform at reasonable prices.
Wokingham Lions are helping them in this venture by running the shop on Thursday Afternoons from 3pm to 6pm at The Elevate Centre in Wokingham.
Last Thursday, the Lions presented a cheque for £2,500.
