A BOROUGH repair cafe has celebrated a full year of mending.
Woodley Repair Cafe fixers and customers celebrated twelve months of restoring items to use, and rescuing them from landfill.
Carol Jewell, the group’s founder, said: “The fixers and volunteers had a busy afternoon and we had lots of happy customers, but found time to celebrate with a birthday cake.
“Our first year has been really successful with the Repair Café becoming a fixture on the Woodley calendar.”
The group celebrated its success by looking at over 30 items needing repair, and reaching a total of more than 500 items brought to the repair cafe since its launch in January 2024.
“All items are weighed to see how much is being saved from landfill,” said Carol.
“And so far, more than 0.8 tonnes have been rescued, which adds up to a total of more than 7,000kg of carbon emissions avoided.”
The group continues to invite residents to bring their broken household items to be mended.
People can just turn up, or can contact the cafe via the website.
Woodley Repair Cafe meets on the first Sunday of the month at Christ Church, Crockhamwell Road, Woodley, from 2pm until 4pm.
