Drivers in Wokingham are being warned to prepare for disruption as a busy junction has now been completely closed as part of a major roadworks project.
The junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road has officially shut and will remain closed until April 10 while essential reconstruction work takes place. The closure marks the final stage of Wokingham Borough Council’s junction realignment project, which sits directly opposite the new link road being built as part of the South Wokingham distributor road scheme.
According to the council, crews will be fully reconstructing the carriageway during the closure. This involves digging up and rebuilding the road surface, meaning it is not safe for vehicles to pass through the area while the work is underway.
But the disruption won’t stop there.
Once the junction reopens, Easthampstead Road will then be closed between Star Lane and Heathlands Road until early 2027 as the wider distributor road project continues to take shape. A diversion route will be put in place for vehicles, and drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The long-term project is designed to improve traffic flow and support new housing developments in South Wokingham, but in the short term motorists should expect significant changes to their usual routes over the coming months.
Residents and commuters who regularly use Easthampstead Road are urged to keep an eye on updates and follow the signed diversion routes during the works.
