PLANS are well underway for this year’s Wokingham May Fayre – and it will be a silver celebration.
This is the 25th year that the annual event has been organized by the Wokingham Lions and is now one of the biggest street fairs in the south of England.
Due to the regeneration of Wokingham’s town centre, there will be a new-look to the layout: stalls from local groups and organisations will be based around Market Place and Broad Street, leaving Peach Street and Denmark Street open to traffic.
Andy Slay, one of the organisers, said: “We have planned a full day of entertainment, including the very popular small animal farm again this year.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s event, which will be our 25th May Fayre in Wokingham.”
The open-air stage will be located between HSBC Bank and the Town Hall. Hours are from 10am to 5pm.
Admission is free, but there is a small charge for some activities. Charges may also apply to public car parks.
“The May Fayre is a wonderful day out for families and people of all ages. Our committee is working very hard to make it a success. We also always have tremendous support from our Town Council,” Mr Slay said.
“We have had an excellent response for stall applications and are nearly full now. To avoid disappointment, those who are still interested in a stall should apply as soon as possible.”
The main beneficiaries from this year’s event will be two local charities, Me2 Club and Home-Start.
Me2Club enables children and young people aged five to 19 who have with special needs and disabilities to participate in mainstream activities.
Home-Start volunteers help families with young children deal with everyday challenges.
