Wokingham’s pacifist remembrance event tomorrow, Saturday, November 11, will be at Langborough Recreation Ground, Wokingham.
This is a change from the original plan to hold it nearby at Howard Palmer Gardens, Wokingham this year.
All are welcome at the event, people with a faith and those with none
41mbrance starts at 12.30pm and lasts for about an hour.
“It will be a reflective, quiet vigil. If people are moved to say something or bring a piece of prose or a short poem to read out they are welcome to do so,” said David Chapman, a Peace Pledge Union member who initiated the event.
“We will remember all victims of war, all nationalities, civilian and military people. We are about challenging war and militarism.”
Mr Chapman said he’d been informed by Wokingham Town Council that they had had to close Howard Palmer Gardens where the event was to take place and it would not be open on Saturday. They had offered Langborough Recreation ground, just a short walk away as an alternative.
Mr Chapman said anyone attending should still park at Howard Palmer Gardens but then walk 200 yards down Cockpit Path, cross over Murdoch Road and Langborough Road junction and into Fairview Road where Langborough Rec is located.
