No election will be held for the vacant Norreys East ward on Wokingham town council.
The vacancy occurred after the resignation of Labour councillor Margaret Lucey in February.
In the May 2023 election, she had been elected with 776 votes
Following her resignation, a total of 10 registered electors were required to request an election with Wokingham’s returning officer, but this was not done, meaning
Katy Hughes, town clerk, told Wokingham Today: “Wokingham Borough Council said that they did not receive the requisite number of requests from residents to hold an election, so the town council is now in a position to co-opt.
“We hope to advertise the co-option opportunity this week, with a view to inviting candidates to submit a co-option application form and to attend our April 9 full council meeting, where a vote on a co-option will take place.”
