AN EXPECTED Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flyby did not take place over the weekend at the Wokingham Classic Motor Show 2026.
Wokingham Lions informed visitors that unfortunately weather conditions on the South Coast had meant that the flight had not been able to reach its planned refuelling airport, and the pilot had been forced to change its route.
The Royal Air Force had intended to fly a Douglas C-47 Dakota (named Kwicherbichen by its crews) over Wokingham on Saturday, June 20 for the Wokingham Lions biannual fundraiser event in Elms Field.
However, the spectacle was cancelled due to poor weather conditions on the south coast that prevented the aircraft from reaching its route.
The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) operates 12 historic aircraft, including six Supermarine Spitfires, two Hawker Hurricanes, one Avro Lancaster, one Douglas Dakota, and two de Havilland Canada Chipmunks.
The aircraft are flown by regular and reserve RAF aircrew and are based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
For those disappointed not to have witnessed the flyby, the aircraft can be seen in action on the RAF website.
