Wokingham Borough Council has awarded a contract for the supply of wheelie bins following the close of a public tender.
Next summer it will replace the current blue bag system, and had sought the supply of up ro 67,000 180-litre black bins and up to 4,000 240-litre examples.
It had requested that initial deliveries would be staggered between May 20924 and July 2024.
The contract was awarded to IPL Plastics (UK) Ltd with a value of £1,018,710.
A tender seeking a company to distribute the bins to residents ends on November 2.
In a statement, Wokingham Borough Council said the black wheeled bin which will be emptied fortnightly, replacing the current weekly blue bag collections.
The wheeled bins will be rolled out from May onwards, and enough additional blue bags will be issued to cover the period until collections start.
Recycling will still be collected from green sacks, which are free and with no limits on how many are put out, but this is also changing to fortnightly collections on weeks when rubbish isn’t taken.
