A WOKINGHAM town centre car park was closed for several hours to allow police to investigate reports that a teenager was raped.
The incident involved a 17-year-old, and the assault took place at Carnival multi-storey car park on Saturday afternoon.
It was reported to Thames Valley Police just after 6pm on Saturday evening, and the car park closed off on Sunday until mid-afternoon.
Forensic police were seen at the Wellington Road site throughout the day.
While the car park was closed, the businesses surrounding it including the bowling alley, the fast-food restaurant, and the leisure centre, remained open.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a rape and assault at Carnival Pool Car Park in Wellington Road, Wokingham, at around 6.15pm on Saturday, July 15.
“A 17-year-old girl was reportedly attacked in the car park sometime between noon and 3.25pm on Saturday.
“We are investigating this as a priority, which involved closing the car park for a few hours yesterday morning.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their patience.
“We understand this report may be alarming but we are confident there is no wider threat to the general public.
