The first door on Wokingham’s Living Advent Calendar was opened in the Town Hall on Saturday.
It was standing room only as Saint Sebastian Wokingham Band performed a selection of carols to an appreciative audience.
These included In The Bleak Midwinter, O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night.
Seasonal refreshments were served by members of Wokingham Town Council and the event was introduced by town mayor Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner.
He said: “We are pleased to be a me to support this event bringing entertainment to all each day until December 24 and an opportunity for charities to collect.
“This evening we are supporting Thames Hospice and info hope you will give generously.”
And at the end he thanked the volunteers for their hard work in making the event happen and added: “Many thanks to Saint Sebastian Wokingham Band for a brilliant performance.”
The Living Advent Calendar runs every day until Christmas Eve. Each night a different venue is used for a short live performance. The event takes place at 6pm on weekdays and 4pm at weekends.
Special events include dressing the Christmas tree on Monday, December 3 and a live nativity in Howard Palmer Gardens on Sunday, December 16.
