A Wokingham school is set to get a makeover after renovation plans were approved by the council.
St Sebastians C of E primary school on Nine Mile Ride in Wokingham Without will carry out works to the roof of its main building.
The single storey building consists mainly of classrooms, staff areas and multi use spaces.
Proposed works include replacing the existing flat roof finishes and tiles with new ones.
A planning statement submitted on behalf of the school by DHP says the upgrades would create ‘the highest quality result and improve the area to benefit all users while complementing the existing building and site’.
Plans do not indicate whether any disruption to children’s learning will take place during the construction works.
But the council’s trees and landscape team raised concerns about the plans as it could impact trees under a protection order.
In its objection to the planning department, the team wrote: “My concern is for the TPO and other trees that overhang the access routes and roofs.
“The application form states that there are no trees or hedges on or adjacent to the site that could influence the development. Looking at various submissions and aerial views I believe this is not the case.”
The team has urged a method statement be submitted to ensure no trees are damaged or pruned without consent during the works.
Wokingham Without parish council raised no objection to the scheme.
Despite concerns raised, the plans were approved by Wokingham Borough Council’s planning department on January 27.
