Parts of the Wokingham borough woke up to a snow storm this morning – while others saw just a few flakes drop out of the sky.
And with more snow forecast throughout the day and temperatures struggling to get above freezing, the advice from Highways England is not to make unnecessary journeys.
Reading Toy Run cancelled
And the big event of the day – the Reading Toy Run from Foster Wheeler car park in Shinfield – will be cancelled, while other festive events could be curtailed due to the snow.
Latest snow forecast
The Met Office’s latest weather forecast has yellow warnings for both wind and snow.
Rain is due this morning, giving way to sleet and snow showers at lunchtime. It should then be dry until 7pm this evening when it is forecast to start snowing again.
There is an 80% chance of heavy snow showers from around 10pm this evening and temperatures will be around freezing.
The snow continues into tomorrow, with snow or sleet forecast in time for tomorrow morning’s rush hour and then until around 3pm.
Temperatures will again struggle to get above freezing.
But anyone hoping that the snow will stick around for Christmas will be disapointed: temperatures will rise by midweek.
Travel safe in the snow
Highways England has issued advice, urging anyone needing to drive today to prepare for any eventuality ensuring vehicles are winter ready, as well as having a supply of warm clothing, food, drink, required medication, boots, shovel and torch. We also recommend some emergency chocolate.

Wokingham’s reaction
While some parts of the borough were hit hard with the 7am snow shower, other parts got off very lightly.
