The chance of snow showers in Wokingham this weekend has increased – but the Met Office has issued a warning about strong winds.
We revealed yesterday that the first snow of winter could fall tomorrow, although it is unlikely to settle. Even if it doesn’t fall, it will still be a chilly weekend.
A forecast was made earlier in the week by the Maiden Erlegh School’s weather team suggesting that snow could fall and this has now been confirmed by the Met Office’s forecast for tomorrow.
Temperatures this weekend are set to be much colder than the past few days and with a windchill, it will feel like sub zero for much of tomorrow.
Forecasters are saying it will be around 4ºC, but with strang gales it will feel like -4ºC.
And the bad weather doesn’t stop there. The Met Office has issued a warning over gale force winds during tomorrow daytime.
“A swathe of gale force north to northwesterly winds, accompanied by bands of rain and snow, will move south across much of central and southern Britain on Friday evening and Saturday. Wind gusts of 50-60 mph are likely in places, especially near coasts where 60-70 mph gusts are possible. In any one area, the strongest winds will last for only a few hours, clearing last from southeastern areas of England.”
And if it does snow – a few flakes are forecast overnight and around 7am tomorrow – it may cause difficulties on the roads.
“There is a possibility of temporary, small amounts of settling snow even at low levels away from eastern coastal counties of England, though most areas should miss this. On Saturday morning, ice will be an additional hazard, particularly for higher level routes.”
Sunday will be a more pleasant day by comparison. Still cold, it will feel like temperatures are above 0ºC during the time time and the wind will be calmer and no snow is forecast.
