Almost 4,000 warrants have been issued by Wokingham borough council for unpaid parking fines during the last year.
Additionally, some 5% of parking charge notices (PCNs) issued throughout Wokingham remain outstanding for more than one month after being issued.
Wokingham Today has been made aware of several perennial offenders. In one case it is understood a driver received three PCNs on one day last week, and that they are being ignored.
A spokesperson for Wokingham borough council told Wokingham Today: “Currently, we have 1,077 cases over one month old outstanding from the 22,288 PCN’s issued over the last year, which equates to approximately 5% of outstanding cases.
“All penalty notices issued are followed up with statutory notices to the registered keeper with details provided by DVLA.
“The final stage in this process is to issue a warrant to recover the debt via our bailiff recovery agents.”
The spokesperson added that during the last year, Wokingham borough council has issued 3,985 warrants to its bailiff services for outstanding penalty charge notices.
