A MAN has been sentenced to jail for a number of thefts in Wokingham.
Ashley Reed-Jones, 26, of Ashridge Road, Wokingham, was handed a sentence of 18 weeks’ imprisonment, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
He was arrested on Friday, July 28, for thefts that took place between Friday, June 30 and Monday, July 24.
During that period, Reed-Jones took a motorcycle from Wellington Road worth more than £300.
He was also charged with nine counts of theft from shops in Montague Park, Payley Court, Market Place and Finchampstead Road, amounting to more than £900.
He was sentenced on Saturday, July 29, at Reading Magistrates’ Court, after pleading guilty to all the offences.
He had already received a suspended sentence of 18 weeks imprisonment for offences carried out during the previous month.
This was for three counts of bicycle theft, with bikes collectively worth £3,400.
The two prison terms will run consecutively, and would lead to a total of 36 weeks in jail.
Sergeant Paul Bentley, of the Wokingham South Neighbourhood policing team, said: “Over the past month this person has prolifically offended across Wokingham, taking food items and cycles wherever he could.
“The neighbourhood team will continue to investigate individuals such as Reed-Jones, and bring them before the courts to face justice.
“We will also continue proactive patrols in Wokingham in order to target hotspot areas, to reduce theft and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
“I would like to thank all of the victims in these cases for supporting our investigations.”
