Reading FC kicked off a new era with Noel Hunt in charge with a draw away to League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
It has been another turbulent week for the club. After news broke that yet another takeover bid had been rejected, matters got even worse when it was revealed that Championship side Hull City had been given permission to speak to Ruben Selles.
After swift negotiations, it was announced on Friday evening that Selles had left to join Hull and he was replaced by Hunt, who signed a two and a half year deal as Reading manager.
Attention turned back to the pitch with a tricky trip to top of the table Wycombe.
Having to tackle the gusty conditions as well as the in-form Chairboys, Hunt’s Royals made a bright start as both Lewis Wing and Chem Campbell had sights at goal.
But it was Wycombe who went in front against the run in play with 18 minutes gone when Beryly Lubala finished from close range to beat Joel Pereira.
Reading weren’t deflated despite going a goal down and got themselves back on terms on the half hour mark.
Sam Smith was played through on goal and after his shot bounded off keeper Franco Ravizzoli, the rebound fell perfectly for Harvey Knibbs to take a touch and apply the finish into an empty net to claim his 7th goal of the campaign.
Former Royal, and teammate of Noel Hunt, Garath McCleary was brought off the bench for Wycombe as they looked to regain the lead.
They had a huge chance but let it go to waste when Fred Onyedinma headed over the bar from six yards out.
Chances were in short supply for Reading in the second-half before a couple of goalward efforts came through Ben Elliott and Wing.
However, neither side were unable to claim the win as the points were shared at Adams Park.
The result keeps Reading in the top six as they move onto 31 points from 18 games.
Next up they are away to Walsall in the EFL Trophy before they host Blackpool on Saturday in League One.
