BINFIELD manager Roger Herridge believes that the next month of fixtures will be a ‘pivotal’ spell for his sides season.
The Moles continued their FA Vase run with a 3-1 triumph over Redhill last Saturday with two goals from Sean Moore sending them through to the third round.
“It was a terrible day for football on Saturday, once we got to the ground we were just pleased that it was on after all the bad weather we had,” said Herridge.
“The FA vase is a competition we want to do well in this year and on paper we went into the game as favourites and it turned out to be a harder 90 minutes than we wanted it to be but it’s all about winning.
“We were pretty average in terms of our performance over the 90 minutes but we had enough to get the result which was the main thing.”
Herridge praised his forward after he successfully converted two penalty kicks which proved to be the difference between the two teams.
“Sean is a player that we were pleased to have back when he came from Bracknell, he’s been fantastic and his goal scoring record speaks for itself. He scored two penalties and he’s on the top of his game at the minute, the longer he keeps scoring regularly, the better it is for us.
The Hellenic Premier side have been drawn at home against AFC Uckfield Town in the third round, scheduled to be played on Saturday, November 30.
“We’re pleased to be drawn at home in the next round, being at home is really important,” continued Herridge.
“On paper again it looks like we should be confident going into it but as last Saturday proved there are no easy games.
“We’ve got time to do our homework on them, we’ve got an understanding that they are going to be a physical side so that’s something we’ll have to prepare for.”
Binfield prepare to travel away to face Longlevens on Saturday as they return to Hellenic League action.
“We’ve got a pivotal few weeks coming up now, were playing Fairford who are second, Bishop’s Cleeve who are third and Westfield before Christmas who I’m sure will be top by the time we play them.
“The next month or so will be interesting and those league games on the back of the FA Vase game and an exciting county cup game against Maidenhead.
“The pitches are changing and becoming a lot softer, it can separate the men from the boys so it’s important we maybe adjust our game slightly to suit the conditions.
“The league is our bread and butter, we started the season wanting to win the league and although that won’t be easy that’s our ultimate aim. The cup competitions are a welcome diversion from that.
Herridge also spoke about the damage that was caused by vandalism on Saturday evening to Binfield pitch at Hill Farm Lane.
“You’ve got to wonder why these mindless idiots would want to do that. What might seem like a bit of fun to them can stop youngsters playing football for a number of weeks.
“We’ve got good people at our club, and are looked after by club stalwarts who put in hours of their own time free of charge, it must break their hearts to see that.
“It took a bit of the spark away from the result on Saturday. Hopefully the police will try and unearth the people that did it and make them pay for their actions.”
