MEMBERS of a self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities were among special guests at a Wokingham birthday party.
Frozen food store Cook Wokingham invited the members to help celebrate the shop’s five year anniversary.
Other invited guests were Claire Revie of SHARE Wokingham, and Captain Jan Howlin from Salvation Army Wokingham.
Both of these organisations are provided with a weekly donation of frozen meals by Cook.
CLASP member Joe who cut the ribbon on the first opening day was pleased to be able to celebrate five years on with the Cook team.
Michele Munro, the charity’s independence support worker, said: “Cook has supported CLASP and many other Wokingham organisations, so it’s lovely to see them doing so well.”
Claire Revie of SHARE Wokingham said: “The support from Cook is invaluable to us, and goes straight to serving those in need in Wokingham.
“To be able to give quality meals to the most vulnerable is much appreciated.”
Cook sells a wide range of frozen meals inspired by the taste of home cooking.
From small beginnings in Farnham in 1997, its stores can now be found throughout the UK.
Louise Buckingham, Cook Wokingham store manager, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to have been serving he community of Wokingham for the last five years.
“The team and I look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come.”
CLASP is a user-led organisation, run by its members, employing people with learning disabilities, and offering voluntary opportunities.
Members receive one to one support, information, advice and signposting.
Salvation Army Wokingham provides an outreach programme during the week, and runs a drop in for people who are vulnerable, experiencing homelessness, and socially isolated.
