AN AMATEUR musical theatre group based in Wokingham, is turning the crank, opening the throttle and climbing aboard for a fun-fuelled theatrical journey designed to entertain all the family.
East Berkshire Operatic Society’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang takes to the skies this month, with a huge cast of 17 principles, and an ensemble of 30 adults and children.
The all singing and all dancing cast will perform plenty of favourite Sherman Brothers’ songs, including: Hushabye Mountain, Truly Scrumptious, and Old Bamboo.
And of course there’s a ‘real flying car’.
Based on Ian Fleming’s timeless story for children, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang takes the audience on a heart warming journey with inventor Caractacus Potts.
With the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy, he restores a broken-down old racing car and discovers it has magical powers.
Joined by the delectable Truly Scrumptious, the family embarks on a fantastical adventure to rescue Grandpa Potts from the clutches of Baron Bomburst in far-away Vulgaria.
The story was made into a famous 1968 film starring Dick Van Dyke, and has been enjoyed by families ever since.
Director Keir Buist said: “I can whole heartily promise an evening of top quality, professional entertainment.
“This show is a rarely performed gem and it has been wonderful to be given the opportunity to direct.
“There will be lots of laughs, moments that will warm your heart, and performances that will have you on your feet by the end.
“EBOS always delivers top quality theatre and this production will be no different”.
The show can be seen at The Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park, from Tuesday, October 31 through to Saturday, November 4.
Doors open at 7pm, with a Saturday evening show at 5pm, and Saturday matinee at 2pm.
Tickets cost £20 or £22.50 for adults, £19.50 for under 16s, and £19 for seniors.
