AN ELECTRICAL retailer has closed its branch in Woodley town centre.
McEvoy and Rowley’s unit in the Crockhamwell Road shopping precinct is now empty, although the family-run business continues to trade from its Maidenhead branch.
The company launched more than 50 years ago, offering vacuum cleaner repairs as well as selling electrical goods such as microwaves, cookers, and fridges.
Woodley Town Centre manager Brian Fennelly was sad the company had moved out.
“Naturally we are very disappointed that a long-established retailer is closing in Woodley. We wish the staff, who have given great service to Woodley customers for many years, all the best for the future,” he said.
“Although Woodley is weathering the economic challenges well – we only have 3% of our shops closed compared to a UK average of 11% – we are not immune to the revolution on the High Street caused by online shopping.
“Sadly, many customers now choose to buy their household appliances online or at out-of-town retail parks.
“We will be working with the landlords and agents as a matter of urgency to get a replacement retailer in the vacant unit as soon as possible.”
McEvoy and Rowley has been contacted for a comment.
