A READING charity is encouraging residents and their pets to take part to help reduce homelessness.
Next month, Launchpad is inviting members of the public to take part in a month-long challenge raising funds to help people facing housing crisis.
Participants compete to reach 100 miles walked with their furry friends across the month of October–around 3 miles a day– but are also encouraged to set a different distance based on their ability.
Registrants will receive a free themed bandanna for their pets, with more available for multi-pet households, including beanies and snoods.
The charity will also be marking World Homeless Day on October 10 with a pet social, as well as running themed activities throughout October.
Launchpad also explained: “Whilst this is a light-hearted challenge, we understand just how important dogs are to some people who do not have a home.
“Owning a dog can be a huge support to those who have faced trauma at the hands of humans, and we strive to keep those important bonds going where we can.
“We are one of the few charitable organisations in the area who accept dogs in their properties.”

“We’re so excited to offer Reading dog lovers a canine-powered challenge–as a virtual event, you can choose the venue, the dog walk times, and even the distance.
“Join us and walk, jog, stroll and bark your way through October.”
